Boiled Frosting

2 cups sugar
3/4 cup water
1 Tbs. light corn syrup or 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
Dash of salt
2 egg whites, beaten stiff
1 tsp. vanilla

Cook sugar, water, corn syrup, and salt over low heat. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Cover sauce pan 2 to 3 minutes to dissolve sugar crystals on sides of pan. Uncover and continue cooking until mixture reaches soft-ball stage (236 degrees). Remove from heat.
Gradually add hot syrup to egg whiles, beating constantly. Add vanilla and continue beating until frosting is of spreading consistency.
