Mint Julep

2 or 3 teaspoons water
2 to 3 teaspoons confectioners' sugar
3 to 4 sprigs mint
2 ounces bourbon
Shaved Ice

Mix the confectioners' sugar in water until dissolved. Bruise mint leaves pulled from a couple sprigs by mashing with a spoon into the sugar syrup. Pour these into a frosted julep cup or highball glass and add bourbon. Fill glass the rest of the way with shaved ice.
Garnish with remaining mint sprig and be sure to furnish a thin straw. It's the best way for drinking the julep.
Yield: 1 julep.
Note: If you want to start with a simple syrup heat 2 cups sugar and 2 cups water to boiling and boil for 5 minutes. Then cool and pour over sprigs of fresh mint to chill at least 24 hours. Use 1 tablespoon syrup with 2 ounces bourbon over crushed ice for each drink.
Great for a Kentucky Derby party!
